Sleep better. Wake up without the pain.

Introducing the simonsleep® Original Pillow - the first osteopath-designed pillow for natural spinal alignment during sleep.

We now stock the simonsleep® Original Pillow at our Needham Market clinic - the first pillow designed by a UK osteopath to support your neck and spine the way nature intended. If you regularly wake with stiffness, aching shoulders, or a neck that never quite feels right, your pillow may be part of the problem. We believe this one is part of the solution.

Why we stock it, and why that matters

Our team tried it first.

We don't recommend products because they arrive in our inbox. Before we agreed to stock the simonsleep® pillow, every member of our team used it. The results were consistent: better sleep, less morning stiffness, and a noticeable reduction in neck and shoulder tension within the first week.

As osteopaths, we know that how you hold your head and neck for eight hours every night has a profound effect on your musculoskeletal health. Most pillows are designed around comfort and cost. The simonsleep® was designed around clinical function — by a practising UK osteopath — and the difference is clear.

We stock it because we believe it's a genuinely useful extension of the care we provide in clinic. Something that keeps working for you after you leave our clinic.

Is your pillow making your pain worse?

Most people with neck pain, upper back tension, or persistent morning stiffness never think to question their pillow. They adjust their sleeping position, stretch in the morning, and carry on. But if your symptoms keep returning despite treatment, your sleep setup is worth examining.

The wrong pillow can undo hours of osteopathic work overnight.

Morning neck pain and stiffness

If your neck feels stiff or aching first thing, your pillow may not be maintaining the natural curve of your cervical spine during sleep. This is particularly common in side sleepers, where the distance between the head and the mattress isn't being properly bridged.

Upper back and shoulder tension

Persistent upper back tightness often has a nocturnal component. When your head and neck aren't supported in a neutral position, your muscles remain in a state of low-grade tension throughout the night — compounding the problems your osteopath is working to resolve.

Sleep-related headaches

Headaches that are worse on waking, or that develop in the first hour of the morning, can be cervicogenic — originating in the joints and muscles of the neck. Poor sleep posture is a significant and frequently overlooked trigger.

Lower back pain

Spinal alignment doesn't begin and end at the shoulders. When the neck is poorly supported, compensatory strain can travel down the entire spine. Addressing head and neck position during sleep contributes to reducing overall spinal load.

Disrupted or unrefreshing sleep

Discomfort interrupts restorative sleep cycles without you always being aware of it. If you wake frequently, struggle to get comfortable, or never feel fully rested, your sleep posture is worth investigating.

Recovering from osteopathic treatment

If you're currently a patient with us, the right pillow is one of the most effective things you can do between appointments. It reinforces your treatment by maintaining better alignment during the hours your body is resting and repairing.

The science behind the simonsleep® design.

Shoulder-led Neck Support

The central insight behind simonsleep® is that when side sleeping, the shoulder — not the pillow — is the true foundation for correct neck alignment. Conventional pillows push upward against the neck, creating pressure and forcing the head into an unnatural position. The simonsleep® design allows the shoulder to naturally determine the required height. The pillow adapts to the body, rather than imposing a position on it.

Designed around how humans sleep

Approximately 54% of adults sleep on their side. A further 37% sleep on their back. The simonsleep® pillow is designed to accommodate both, with an adjustable fill that allows you to modify the height and firmness depending on your preferred position. Back sleepers generally need a lower profile to maintain neutral cervical alignment; side sleepers need greater loft to bridge the shoulder-to-head gap. One fixed pillow cannot do both well. This one can.

Inspired around evolutionary sleep posture

Simon Bacon's design draws on the natural resting postures of humans and our primate relatives — positions that evolved over millions of years to protect the spine and reduce joint pressure. Rather than engineering a posture and forcing the body into it, simonsleep® works with the body's natural inclination to find a safe, comfortable position. It reduces resistance rather than creating it.

Sleep posture and brain health

Research suggests the brain's glymphatic system — the mechanism responsible for clearing neurotoxic waste proteins, including amyloid-beta — operates most efficiently during lateral (side) sleep. Correct head and neck positioning during sleep is not just about avoiding pain in the morning; it directly supports your brain's overnight maintenance cycle.

What makes the simonsleep® pillow different.

Adjustable memory foam fill

Cross-cut shredded memory foam filling can be added or removed to precisely customise the height and firmness of the pillow. This isn't a token feature — it reflects a genuine understanding that no two bodies, or sleep positions, are the same.

Ergonomic Comfort Zone base layer

A structurally supportive foam base provides consistent, reliable foundation for the head and neck, regardless of sleep position. The fill sits above this layer, allowing for personalisation without sacrificing structural integrity.

Breathable, cooling cover

A cotton-soft, fully washable outer cover with cooling surface technology maintains a comfortable sleeping temperature throughout the night. It fits a standard pillowcase, so no additional investment is required.

Refillable and sustainable by design

The foam fill can be topped up or replaced without discarding the entire pillow. A washable inner liner separates the fill from the outer cover. The pillow is designed to last — reducing waste and offering better long-term value than cheaper alternatives that lose their shape within months.

CertiPUR-US® certified foam

The foam meets CertiPUR-US® standards for content, emissions, and durability — free from ozone depleters, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and other harmful substances.

UK Patented design

Covered by UK Registered Designs 6471684 and 6471685, and UK Patent No. UK00004279684. The simonsleep® design is genuinely novel — the product of clinical thinking, not a rebranded generic.

Trusted by osteopaths, chiropractors, and physiotherapists across the UK.

simonsleep® is stocked by a growing network of musculoskeletal clinics across the country — not because of marketing, but because practitioners have used it with their patients and seen tangible results. We are among its earliest stockists in Suffolk, and we remain confident in recommending it.

The pillow was created by Simon Bacon MSc MA DO ND, a practising UK osteopath. The design reflects the things we discuss in clinic every day: the role of the shoulder in lateral neck support, the importance of adjustability for different anatomies, and the relationship between sleep posture and musculoskeletal recovery.

We would not put our name behind a product we hadn’t tested ourselves and believed in completely. The simonsleep® pillow is the first we’ve recommended by name in our years of practice in Suffolk.

How to get yours

The simonsleep® Original Pillow is available to purchase at our clinic in Needham Market. We've chosen to offer it in person so we can make sure it's the right fit for you and show you how to set it up correctly for your build and sleep position.

  • If you're an existing patient, simply mention the pillow at your next appointment and we'll have one ready. New patients are always welcome — book online or call us on 01473 561043.

  • We'll walk you through how the pillow works, help you adjust the fill height for your shoulder width and preferred sleep position, and answer any questions in the context of your specific symptoms or condition.

  • Purchase your simonsleep® Original Pillow at the clinic and leave with it. We're here to support you with any questions as you settle into using it.

  • No. You're welcome to contact us to purchase a pillow without a prior appointment. That said, if you have ongoing neck or back pain, we'd always encourage a consultation first — so we can ensure the pillow is right for your situation and that you set it up in a way that genuinely helps.

  • Yes. The adjustable fill allows you to reduce the loft for back sleeping, where a lower profile generally supports better neutral cervical alignment. The ergonomic base layer provides consistent support in either position.

  • Most people notice an improvement within the first week. If you're transitioning from a very high or unsupportive pillow, you may experience mild initial adjustment as your neck muscles adapt to a more neutral position — this usually passes within a few days. If you have any concerns, get in touch and we'll help you fine-tune the setup.

  • No — and we wouldn't suggest it could. The pillow is an adjunct to your care, not a substitute for it. It helps maintain the benefits of treatment between appointments and can reduce the recurrence of symptoms with a postural sleep component. It's one part of a broader approach to your health.

  • We're at Encore Wellness, 20 High Street, Needham Market, Suffolk, IP6 8AP — easily accessible from Ipswich, Stowmarket, Woodbridge, Framlingham, and across mid-Suffolk. Call 01473 561043 or book online to arrange a visit.

  • If you're unable to visit us in clinic, the simonsleep® pillow is also available directly from simon-sleep.com. But if you're local, we'd encourage you to come and see us — the in-person setup guidance makes a real difference.
